Log View
The Log View pane displays log messages stored in the database. There are two types of log messages: system messages and monitor configuration changes / state changes. You can select which log messages should be shown using the checkboxes on the Log View toolbar. Both types of log messages use the same log panel with a common timeline for convenience; the log order may be reversed from the toolbar. Log messages are color-coded as shown in the below table: |
| System Messages | White background, grey font | ||||||
| Monitor or Host Messages |
Black font
|
All system messages are shown regardless of what item (monitor, host or group) is currently selected in a tree in Tree View. The log of state changes and alerts shows messages related only to the selected item. Messages from this log include hyperlinks; by clicking on them you can select a corresponding object in the Tree View pane and all the other dockable windows.
The toolbar in Log View has the following controls
-
A State changes and alerts checkbox - toggles between showing/not showing monitor and host configuration and state change messages (black font ones).
-
A System messages checkbox - toggles between showing/not showing system log messages (grey font ones).
-
A Show log for the last N hours spinbox - makes it possible to shrink the log to see records added only during the last hour or to expand it and show records added up to 72 hours ago or to define any intermediate timeframe for log records. By default Log View shows records for the last 24 hours.
-
An Order button - changes the log record order (in Descending order, most recent records are shown at the top of the list and in Ascending order they are shown at the bottom).
The Log View panel also has a context menu that appears when you right-click on the
log area. The menu contains standard Select All and Copy
items as well as an Autoscroll item labeled with a check mark.
When this item is marked, the window is automatically scrolled to show
new log records and if it is not marked then the window position doesn't
change after addition of new log records. Disabling Autoscroll is
necessary if you study records in the middle of the log and want to prevent
window focus changes.
